The main cost in racing Jet Skis is of course, the Jet Ski itself. For example mine cost $3,000 and my dad's cost $11,800. After all the modifications and parts I have bought for my Jet Ski the grand total comes out to be about $7,000. This cost deters most people from wanting to race Jet Skis. There is also the huge cost of operation, I have to run premium gas in both my dads and mine. Gas mileage is not good either I estimate I get around 4 mpg, I'll go through a 22 gallon tank in about a day. Since my moto is a 2- stroke, which is fundamentally different than all new motors out there, I have to premix my gas with special marine oil, witch is $40 a gallon.
I trailer my Skis wherever I go, that means gas for the tow vehicle, and towing a 2500 lb trailer definitely affects gas mileage. Then there are race registration fees. The fees vary from race to race. Accessories can get very pricy to, my life jacket cost $80. There are numerous other fees that also come with riding in Florida like the following: restaurant meals, hotel rooms, bar tabs, broken parts, and of course speeding tickets, which come standard when purchasing a really fast personnel watercraft. I'm really glad my dad pays everything for me. :)

I think that jet ski's are freaking sick. Even though I never rode one. It is sad to me that they are expensive, otherwise I would have one and go to the beach everyday. This topic sounds interesting and I'll definitely come back here if I ever decide to get a jet ski.
ReplyDeleteWow tommy thats crazy, i never knew jet skiing was so expensive. I especially never knew that your gas costs 40 dollars a gallon and that you go throgh 22 gallons a day, thats a lot of money, if what you say is true then you spend 880 dollars on one day of jet skiing, i never knew it would be so expensive. But if you can afford it then why not, but yea jet skis seem to be really fun and interesting, you should bring me one day.
ReplyDeleteWhen you add that all up it seems like a lot, but im glad that your such a princesses that your dad buys you everything. =] How many races do you think you go to in about a year? How many days a year do you actually go jet skiing? I never knew you could actually get speeding tickets.
I don't spend $880 dollars a day on jet sking, you added it wrong. i buy 22 gallons of regular gas. The $40 dollar gallon oil lasts about 3 tanks. It depends on the year, last year i went to 3. Yes I am a princess.
ReplyDeletedam i never knew that it cost so much to jet ski. lol 40 bucks a gallon ouch....hopefully you can continue to keep doing it...don't get your dad mad other wise your out of luck....haha
ReplyDeleteIts not 40 bucks a gallon. Its regular gas, but it cost 40 buck a gallon for oil. I don't spend $880 to fill up.
ReplyDeleteI went jet-ski racing once a couple of years ago with my uncle, and I don't rememeber it being as expensive as you portrayed in the article! But owning a jet-ski can be a totally different thing, espeically how costly it is to mainatain one!
ReplyDeleteLast summer, I spent a week down in the Keys with my two best friends. My friend Sarah owns two jet-ski's and we brought them down there with us. I thought I went through a lot of gas with my car, but I was wrong. We spent so much money on gas, it was ridiculous. The costs of buying, maintaining, and using a jet-ski really adds up, good thing your dad pays for everything!
